11:15 PM (MST): The Navajo Nation Department of Emergency Management (NDEM) has issued a Notice of Evacuation for the following communities: Bluff, Montezuma Creek, and Aneth, Utah, due to preparation for high water levels of the San Juan River.
Shelter is set up at the Aneth Community School, at 162 San Juan County Rd. #466, Montezuma Creek, UT 84534.
Be prepared to be away from your home for multiple days. Bring necessary medications, identification, important documents, personal hygiene items, change of clothes, pillows, blankets, cell phones and chargers.
NDEM estimates that a total of 150 people will be evacuated tonight for the Montezuma Creek and Aneth communities alone.
The Incident Command Post will be located at the Montezuma Creek EMS Station.

MCES will have an early release today at 12:30, Wednesday, October 21, due to weather and road conditions. SJSD will continue to monitor the weather situation and will make a decision this evening about having school tomorrow. Updates will be provided to you via text message, our school website and Facebook. Please be safe as you travel home today.
The evacuation order at Montezuma Creek Elementary has been lifted. Emergency responders and district staff have assessed the building and have deemed it safe to re-enter. School will resume as normal and dismiss at the regular time.

Montezuma Creek Elementary has been evacuated due to the presence of smoke in the building.
The safety and security of your child is our top priority. All students are safe and accounted for. We are actively responding to the situation and collaborating with emergency responders. At this time, we ask that parents stay where they are and remain available to receive updates and instructions if needed.
You will receive additional communications as soon as we have additional details and information.
Due to heavy rain, muddy conditions, and flooded roads, schools in Bluff, Montezuma Creek, and Monument Valley will be closed on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Students who reside in or around these communities and travel to schools in Blanding will be excused from attendance tomorrow due to unsafe travel conditions.
School bus routes serving Bluff, Montezuma Creek, Monument Valley, and surrounding areas, including routes that transport students to Blanding schools, will not operate tomorrow due to road conditions.
The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
